Pedro Villerreal made one bit mistake and that was a three run blast that cost the GCL Reds in a 3-2 loss to the GCL Twins. He gave up the three runs (two earned) on three hits with a walk and a strikeout in four innings.
Jefry Sierra went two for three in the loss. Cristobal Rodriguez singled and he scored a run.
Justin Walker fell to 0-2 on the season with a rough start in the Mustangs 10-1 loss to Orem. He gave up seven runs (four earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. Forest Cannon had a decent outing at least and he threw 2 2/3 shutout innings of relief.
Mariekson Gregorius had a nice day at the plate and he went four for five with an RBI. Humberto Sosa went two for four.
Matt Fairel improved to 6-4 on the season with a solid start in the Dragons 6-1 win over Clinton. He gave up one run on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Scott Gaffney pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings and he picked up his fourth save of the season.
Andrew Means went two for five with a run and two RBIs. Byron Wiley went three for four with a double and a walk.
Ben Jukich improved to 6-4 on the season with a really nice start in the Bats 4-2 win over Toledo. He gave up a run on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Pedro Viola gave up a run in the ninth but he still held on to pick up his sixth save of the season.
Chris Heisey went three for four with a double, a run and an RBI. Kevin Barker went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
Jeremy Horst improved to 5-8 on the season with a really solid start in the Red win over Fort Myers. He gave up four hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 shutout innings.
Justin Reed went three for five with a triple and an RBI. Denis Phipps went two for five with a double and a run.
Blair Carson improved to 1-1 with a really solid start in the GCL Reds 6-1 win over the GCL Orioles. He gave up one unearned run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings. Jesus Adames also got it done and he gave up a hit and a walk with a strikeout in four shutout innings to pick up his first save of the season.
Juan Duran had a really nice day at the plate. He belted two doubles and he had three RBIs and two runs. Alex Buchholz went two for four with a double, a walk and a run.
Lee Tabor improved to 1-1 on the season with a really nice start in the Mudcats 6-0 win over the Smokies. He gave up just four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six shutout innings.
Juan Francisco went two for three with a solo home run, a walk and two runs. Zack Cozart went one for three with a walk, an RBI and two runs.
Matthew Klinker really got it done on the mound tonight as he improved to 2-0 in the Mudcats 8-1 win over Carolina. He gave up three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in six shutout innings.
Brian Peterson had a big day at the plate. He went two for four with a grand slam. Juan Francisco also had a nice game and he went three for four with a three run home run and two runs.
Dayton couldn’t get much going at the plate as they were held to a run on seven hits in their 3-1 loss to Fort Wayne. Kevin Coddington was the hitting star and he went two for four with the lone run.
Lance Janke took the loss and he fell to 4-4. He gave up three runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Steven Otterness did a nice job with three shutout innings of relief.
Sarasota had a tough time today and they walked away with a pair of losses against the Tampa Yankees. Game one saw Scott Carroll get knocked around. He gave up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Neftali Soto went two for three with a double and two RBIs.
Game two was tough because an error led to four unearned runs. Luis Montano took the loss and he gave up five runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Jose Gualdron belted a solo home run in the 5-2 loss.
Carolina came back from a three run deficit to beat the Lookouts 4-3. Zach Cozart belted a two run blast to help out the cause while Logan Parker doubled twice.
Jordan Smith improved to 5-3 with a solid start. He gave up three runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Logan Ondrusek gave up one hit in the ninth and he picked up his third save of the season.
Lousville got in their make up and then some as they swept a doubleheader over Indianapolis. Game one was a 2-1 win and Ramon Ramirez had a very nice start. He gave up one run on six hits and with four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Pedro Viola got the final two batters out to pick up his fifth save. Drew Stubbs led the way at the plate with a pair of singles.
Game two was also a one run game but this time it was a 3-2 win. Jeff Kennard struck out three in two shutout innings to improve to 2-1 while Robert Manuel pitched a shutout ninth to pick up his seventh save. Adam Rosales went two for three with a double and two runs while Chris Valaika went one for one with a double, a walk and two RBIs.
Oscar Castro didn’t take the loss, but he definitely got the ball rolling in the Dragons 8-6 loss to Fort Wayne. He gave up four runs on four hits and four walks with one strikeout in three innings for his start. Junior Martinez gave up three runs in 1 1/3 innings and he fell to 2-1 in the loss.
Cody Puckett belted a home run and he drove in three. Miguel Rojas went three for five with a double, a run and an RBI.
This game was pure ugly. The offense managed just five hits and they couldn’t score, and the pitchers yielded ten runs. Humberto Sosa was the standout at the plate. He went two for three.
Timothy Crabbe took the loss and he fell to 0-1 despite being the most effective pitcher of the bunch. He gave up a run on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts in three innings. Each of the next three pitchers gave up at least two runs each.
