Brian Pearl Throws Six Shutout Innings In Dragons Win

Four different pitchers combined to throw a three hits shutout in the Dragons 3-0 win over the Whitecaps.  Brian Pearl picked up the win and he improved to 1-0 with a nice start.  He gave up two hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings.  Donnie Joseph struck out the side in a shutout ninth and he picked up his third save of the season.

Efrain Contreras went three for four with a double, a run and an RBI.  Frank Pfister doubled, tripled and drove in a run.

Bats Held to Five Hits In Loss to Hens

The Bats didn’t get much from their hitters last night as they fell to the Hens 4-1.  Chris Valaika two for three with a triple and he scored the lone run.  Corky Miller went two for three.

Travis Wood took the loss and he fell to 0-3.  He gave up four runs on nine hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.  Three of the nine hits he gave up left the building.

Mudcats Comeback Falls Short In Loss to Smokies

The Mudcats scored four in the sixth inning but unfortunately, they were down by five as their comeback fell short in a 6-5 loss to the Smokies.  Dallas Buck had a rough start and he fell to 1-2.  He gave up six runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk with one strikeout in five innings.  Daryl Harang and Jerry Gil threw two shutout innings of relief each.

Michael Griffin went two for four with a double and two RBIs.  Sean Henry hit a two run home run, his second long ball of the season.

Sam LeCure Throws Eight Shutout Innings In Bats Win

Sam LeCure improved to 2-0 on the season with a really nice start in the Bats 8-2 win over the Clippers.  He gave up two hits and he struck out nine in eight shutout innings. 

Chris Heisey had a big day at the plate.  He went two five with a home run and four RBIs.  Zack Cozart went two for three with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Mudcats Held to Three Hits In Loss to Smokies

The Mudcats picked up just three hits in a 2-1 loss to the Smokies last night.  Kris Negron went one for two with two walks and a run.  Denis Phipps went two for four.

A nice start by Matt Klinker went to waste.  He gave up a run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings.  Jordan Smith gave uip a run in the ninth and he fell to 0-1.

Lynchburg Racks Up Seventeen Hits In Win Over Salem

Lynchburg hitters really got going as they finished the game with seventeen hits and three walks in a 9-5 win over Salem.  Dave Seppelt went three for five with a double, two RBIs and two runs.  Cody Puckett went two for four with two doubles, two runs and an RBI.

Jordan Hotchkiss improved to 1-0.  He gave up an unearned run in two innings of relief.  Mace Thurman pitched two innings of shutout relief.

Pedro Villarreal Has Rough Start In Dragons Loss

Pedro Villarreal fell to 0-1 on the season with a rough start in the Dragons’ 4-3 loss to South Bend.  He gave up four runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout in five innings.

Chris Richburg went two for four with two doubles and a run.  Mark Fleury went two for two with a walk and an RBI.

Louisville Loses Two To Clippers

Louisville had a rough day and they put up two losses on Sunday at home against the Clippers.  Game one was a 6-4 loss where Justin Lehr was roughed up.   He gave up five runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings and he fell to 0-2 on the season.  Daniel Dorn went two for three with a home run and two runs while Zach Cozart went two for three with a double, an RBI and a run.

Game two was a 3-0 shutout.  The four different batters had two hits while the rest of the team had none.  Dorn went two for four and he had the lone extra base hit with a double.  Chad Reinke gave up three runs on six hits in four innings and he fell to 0-1 on the season.

Mudcats Pick Up Fifteen Hits In Win Over Biscuits

There were plenty of hitting stars in the Mudcats 8-7 win over the Biscuits yesterday.  Yonder Alonso led the way though and he went three for four with a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs.  Brandon Yarbrough went three for four with a double and a run.

Alexander Smit was roughed up in his start but the hitters picked him up.  He gave up five runs in five innings but he did strikeout seven.  Philippe Valiquette pitched a shutout ninth and he improved to 1-0.

Lance Janke Has Rough Outing In Hillcats Loss

Lance Janke fell to 0-2 after a rough day in the Hillcats 7-6 loss to Frederick.  He gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts in four innings of relief.  Mark Serrano also had a rough start and he gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four inning.

Naftali Soto went three for five with a double in the loss.  Kyle Day went two for three with a home run, two RBIs and two runs.

Dragons Edge South Bend In Ten Innings

Andrew Means singled home Didi Gregorius in the bottom of the tenth for the game winner in Dayton’s 3-2 win over South Bend.  Means was a solid three for six and he also drove in a run.  Chris Richburg went two for four with a double and an RBI.

Josh Ravin gave up just two runs in six solid frames in his start.  Doug Salinas was very impressive with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings of shutout relief.  Donnie Joseph struck out the final batter for South Bend and he improved to 2-0 on the season.

Bullpen Struggles In Dragons Loss to South Bend

A decent start by Jacob Johnson went to waste as the Dragons fell to South Bend 6-3.  He gave up two runs on nine hits and one walk with two strikeouts in five innings.  Justin Walker fell to 0-2 and he gave up four runs on four hits (two earned) in two innings of relief. while Nick Christiani struck out three in two hitless innings.

Byron Wiley went one for two with two walks, a solo home run and two runs.  Henry Rodriguez went two for five with a double.

Travis Webb Struggles In Hillcats Loss to Keys

Travis Webb fell to 0-1 after a rough start in the Hillcats 6-4 loss to the Frederick Keys.  He gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts in four innings.

Miguel Rojas was a perfect three for three.  He walked, drove in a run and scored once.  Carlos Mendez went two for four with a pair of RBIs.

Daryl Thompson Has Rough Start In Mudcats Loss

The Mudcats fell to the Biscuits 5-3 and it was Daryl Thompson who had a rough time on the mound.  He fell to 0-1 and he gave up four runs on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.  Daryl Harang gave up a run on four hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Chris Denove had a nice day at the plate.  He went three for three with two doubles, a walk and a run.  Sean Danielson went two for four with a walk and a run while Yonder Alonso belted a two run home run.

Aroldis Chapman Walks Four In Bats Loss to Clippers

It was another good start for Aroldis Chapman, unfortunately, he took the loss as the Bats lost to the Clippers 3-1.  Chapman gave up just one run on one hit but he walked four and struck out just one.  Federico Baez gave up an unearned run on one hit in two innings of shutout relief.

The Bats managed just four hits in the loss.  Todd Frazier led the way and he went two for three with a walk and a run.

Matt Fairel Throws Six Shutout Innings in Lynchburg Win

The Hillcats got some solid pitching in a 5-3 win over Salem.  Matt Fairel led the way and he threw six perfect innings in which he struck out five.  Mace Thurman gave up a run in the ninth but it was still good enough for his third save of the season.

Jose Gualdron was the hitting star.  He went three for three with three doubles and three runs.  Josh Fellhauer doubled, drew a walk and drove in two runs.

Dragons Held to Three Hits In Loss to Bowling Green

The Dragons were shut down at the plate as they lost to Bowling Green 3-1.  Andrew Means had two of the Dragons three hits with a double and a single while Henry Rodriguez doubled and scored the lone Dragon’s run.

A really nice start by Josh Ravin went to waste.  He gave up five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five shutout innings.  Justin Walker gave up three runs in three innings of relief and he fell to 0-1.

Hillcats Held to Five Hits In Loss to Salem

A decent start by Lance Janke went to waste as the Hillcast lost to Salem 2-1.  Janke gave up two runs on six hits with three strikeouts in six innings of work.  The loss drops his record to 0-1.

Devin Mesoraco doubled and drove in the lone run for the Hillcats.  Justin Reed drew a walk and scored.

Bats Fall to the Clipper In Ten Innings

This was a tough one because the Bats blew a one run lead in the ninth then lost it in the tenth.  Sam LeCure had a mediocre start and he gave up two runs in 4 1/3 innings before yielding to the pen.  Jon Adkins gave up the ninth inning run and then Jesus Delgado took the loss after he gave up a solo home run in the tenth.

Daniel Dorn hit a solo home run and he drew two walks.  Zach Cozart went two for four with a run.

Lynchburg Held to Six Hits IN Loss to Frederick

Lynchburg couldn’t get much done at the plate in their 4-1 loss to Frederick.  The lone run came on a solo home run by Cody Puckett.  Josh Fellhauer singled and he drew a walk.

Travis Webb struck out six in four shutout innings.  Scott Gaffney took the loss when he gave up a pair of runs in the eighth inning and he fell to 0-1.

Daryl Thompson Strikes Out Seven In Mudcats Win

The Mudcats got some strong pitching between Daryl Thompson’s seven strikeouts and Daryl Harang’s 3 2/3 shutout innings of relief.  Harang picked up the win while Philippe Vallquette pitched a shutout ninth to pick up his first save of the season.

Denis Phipps singled and drove in a pair of runs.  Kris Negron singled, scored and drove in one.

Aroldis Chapman Shines In Pro Debut

Aroldis Chapman came as advertised as he mowed down Hen after Hen in the Bats 2-1 win.  Chapman struck out nine and he gave up just an unearned run on five hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.  Enerio Del Rosario struck out four in 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief and Jon Adkins pitched a shutout ninth to pick up save number two.

Zack Cozart doubled three times in the win.  Chris Heisey belted a solo home run, his first of the season.

Dragons Outlast Lugnuts In Ten Inning Win

Mariekson Gregorius singled home Kevin Coddington in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Dragons walked away with a 6-5 win in their home opener.  Gregorius had a big day at the plate and he went four for six with a triple, a run and an RBI.  Coddington went two for five with a solo home run and two runs.

Josh Ravin had an odd start. He struck out seven in 3 2/3 innings but he gave up two runson five hits and four walks.  Justin Walker was the long man out of the pen and he gave up three runs in 6 1/3 innings.  Donnie Joseph picked up the win with a shutout tenth inning in which he struck out two.

Matt Klinker Throws Five Shutout Innings In Mudcats Win

The Mudcats kicked off their season with a 4-2 win over Birmingham.  Matt Klinker had a fantastic start and he improved to 1-0.  He gave up two hits with three strikeouts in five shutout innings.  Jordan Smith got into trouble in the ninth and while he gave up a run, he also pitched out of it and he picked up his first save of the season.

Sean Danielson went two for four in the win.  Sean Henry brought a big stick and he went two for four with a home run and three RBIs.  Yonder Alonso went one for three with a walk, a double and two runs.

Daniel Dorn, Corky Miller Power Bats to Win In Home Opener

The Bats opened up Slugger Field with a win as they took care of the Hens 5-3.  Daniel Dorn and Corky Miller provided the bulk of the offense with a pair of two run blasts.  Jeff Frazier also had a nice game and he went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.

Sam LeCure had a nice start and he improved to 1-0.  He gave up a pair of runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings.  Jon Adkins got the final three outs and he picked up his first save of the season.
