There were plenty of hitting stars in the Mudcats 8-7 win over the Biscuits yesterday. Yonder Alonso led the way though and he went three for four with a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs. Brandon Yarbrough went three for four with a double and a run.
Alexander Smit was roughed up in his start but the hitters picked him up. He gave up five runs in five innings but he did strikeout seven. Philippe Valiquette pitched a shutout ninth and he improved to 1-0.
Carolina scored four runs in their 4-3 win over the B-Mets and three of those runs were scored by Jake Kahaulelio. He finished the game with two doubles and a walk to get those three runs. Stephen Chapman singled twice and he scored the other run.
Alexander Smit improved to 3-2 with a solid start. He gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innins. Philippe Valiquette gave up a run in the ninth but it was still good enough for his first save of the season.
Alexander Smit fell to 2-2 on the season with a really rough start in the Mudcats 8-6 loss to the Smokies. He gave up four runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. In fact all four pitchers that the Mudcats threw out there gave up at least one run.
Jose Castro led the way at the plate in the loss. He went two for five with a double, two RBIs and a run. Eric Eymann went two for four with a run and an RBI.
Todd Frazier paced an impressive 10-2 win by the Mudcats as they took care of the Biscuits. He went three for four with a double, a solo homer, four RBIs and two runs. Chris Helsey also had a nice game and he went three for four with a double, a walk, two RBIs and a run.
Alexander Smit improved to 2-0 with a solid outing. He gave up two hits and five walks with three strikeouts in five shutout innings.
Alexander Smit fell to 0-2 on the season and while his start wasn’t awful, it wasn’t good enough in a game where the Reds scored just two runs. He gave up two runs on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts in just four innings.
Juan Francisco was the offense for Sarasota. His two run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning was all the Reds picked up in the game.
The Reds got off to a nice start in this game and they jumped out to a 3-0 lead but Alexander Smit gave up five runs in the third innings as Sarasota list it to Fort Myers 6-3. The five runs came on five hits and four walks in a tough outing.
Sean Henry was the hitting star. He doubled and drove in two runs in the loss.
