Travis Webb must have felt okay about this one. Yeah, he gave up a first inning run and the Reds still didn’t have the lead when he left after four, but one run isn’t that much to make up. Unfortunately, the pen imploded and the end result was a 5-2 loss. Webb took the loss but Logan Ondrusek and Philippe-Alexandre Valiquette combined to give up four in the seventh that put this one out of reach.
Alex Buchholz doubled twice and scored a run in the loss. Carson Kainer went two for three with a walk and an RBI.
The Dragons season came to end after a 7-5 loss to South Bend. They were down 7-1 and made it a game but the deficit was too much to overcome. It’s too bad because things looked good after a game one win by Dayton.
Anthony Gressick was shelled in the loss. He gave up seven runs on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
Todd Frazier and Zachary Cozart both went yard in the loss. Carson Kainer doubled twice and scored two runs.
The Dragons lost to South Bend 8-4 in a game where Dayton just couldn’t find any pitching. Rafael Gonzalez gave up four runs in his start and both Kevin Gunter and Misael DeJesus gave up two runs a piece. Gunter took the loss because the two runs he gave up broke a 4-4 tie.
Logan Parker belted a big three run homer that gave the Dragons the lead for at least a half inning. Carson Kainer was the only Dragon with two hits and he drove in a run.
The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in their playoff series behind an outstanding start by Daniel Guerrero. The right hander gave up one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in eight very solid frames.
Carson Kainer went two for three with a double, an RBI and a run in the 3-1 win. Todd Frazier went two for four with a double and an RBI.
Sarasota beat Clearwater 7-4 and their pitchers got it done on the mound. Johnny Cueto gave up four runs in four innings but he struck out seven. Then Carlos Bohorquez picked up the win with three shutout innings of relief. He struck out five in an impressive performance.
Carson Kainer went two for four with two doubles and two RBIs. Michael Griffin went two for five with a double, a solo homerun and two runs scored.
