Shaun Cumberland singled home Jose Castro in the bottom of the ninth as the Lookouts edged Mobile 8-7. It capped off a nice game by Cumberland in which he went four for five with a double, a homerun, three RBIs and three runs. Drew Anderson also had a nice game with a double, a homerun and three RBIs.
Josh Roenicke improved to 3-0 despite blowing the save when he gave up a run in the top of the ninth inning. He did strike out the side, he just also gave up three hits and a walk in the ninth.
Carlos Fisher had a rough relief appearance and he fell to 0-1 as the Lookouts lost to Huntsville 7-4. He gave up five runs on five hits and two walks with a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings. A nice start by Ramon Ramirez went to waste. He gave up a single run on three hits with two strikeouts in five innings.
Cody Strait went two for five with a double and a homerun. Sean Henry homered, walked twice and scored two runs.
The Lookouts couldn’t score a single run in their 4-0 loss to the B-Mets today. They did have a couple of solid individual performances at the plate though. Michael Griffin doubled twice in four at bats and B.J. Szymanski went two for three in the contest.
Ramon Ramirez took the loss in a subpar outing. He gave up two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in just 3 2/3 innings.
The Lookouts split their twin bill today with the Biscuits. Game one was an 8-4 win but the Lookouts needed an extra frame to win it. That four run eighth inning came on a big grand slam by B.J. Szymanski. He finished two for three with a double, the slam and three runs. Ben Jukich threw five solid innings in his start and he gave up two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Josh Roenicke gave up an unearned run in the seventh inning but he picked up the win.
Game two was an ugly 10-1 blowout loss. Justin Mallett gave up four runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout in three innings of work. Justin James was shelled for five runs in 1 2/3 innings. Szymanski drove in the lone run for the Lookouts with his second homerun of the day.
James Avery didn’t take the loss, but he got things going as the Lookouts were knocked around by the Biscuits. He gave up four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Pedro Viola was boucned for three runs in just 2/3 of an inning.
Tonys Gutierrez went two for four with a solo homer. Craig Tatum doubled, drew two walks and drove in a run.
Daryl Thompson definitely got it done on the mound tonight as the Lookouts beat the Biscuits 4-1. He gave up just one unearned run on three hits without a walk and he struck out five. Three relievers then combined to throw three shutout innings the rest of the way. Nice game by the pitching staff here.
