Sarasota’s bid for the Florida State League championship ended tonight as they were eliminated by Clearwater in a 4-3. The Reds had two different leads in this one but could neither of them and it was Sean Watson who gave up two runs in the seventh that turned out to be the deciding runs.
Tonys Gutierrez went two for four with a run in the loss. Eric Eymann doubled, drove in a run and scored.
Sarasota was held to just five hits in a 3-2 loss to Clearwater that will force a deciding game three to determine who plays Brevard County in the Florida State League finals. Eric Eymann was the only Red with two hits and Tonys Gutierrez singled, drew a walk, scored a run and drove in one.
Daryl Thompson took the loss although he threw a decent enough game. He gave up two runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings of work.
Ben Jukich improved to 2-1 on the season with a nice start in Sarasota’s 4-1 win over Brevard County. He gave up one run on two hits and four walks with six strikeouts in six innings of work.
Chris Kroski provided the bulk of the offense with a big three run homer in the second inning. Eric Eymann went two for four with a double, an RBI and a run.
Ben Jukich didn’t take the loss but he got the Reds off to a poor start in their 10-8 loss to Clearwater. He gave up four runs on five hits and two walks and he pitched just 1 1/3 innings. Derrick Lutz ended up taking the loss and he gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Jay Bruce had a nice day at the plate in the loss. He went two for five with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. Eric Eymann went three for four with a double and he scored a run.
Eric Eymann went yard not once, but twice in Sarasota’s third straight win. He hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and then he hit a huge two run shot in the tenth that was the difference in the 7-5 win.
A great start by Johnny Cueto was almost wasted. He gave up just one run on three hits with three strikeouts in eight innings. Josh Roenicke picked up the win despite blowing the lead in the ninth and giving up three runs.
Five late runs turned a 6-2 lead into a 7-6 loss as the pen was hit hard in Sarasota’s loss. Derrik Lutz had a tough time and he gave up four of those runs and he took the loss.
Josh Holden and Eric Eymann each drove in two runs. Michael DeJesus went three for four with a run scored.
The Sarasota Reds continued their hot streak with a 5-3 win over Clearwater. Starter Travis Wood gave up three runs in the first inning but both he and the pen shut down the opposition the rest of the way. Ruben Medina picked up the win with three shutout innings of relief.
Eric Eymann went three for four with a double, a run and an RBI. Daniel Dorn went two for four with a double and two RBIs.
