Sean Watson was hit hard and he fell to 0-1 on the season in Sarasota’s 8-1 loss to Palm Beach. He gave up five runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings.
No Red had more then one hit in the loss. Jeremiah Piepkorn was the only batter to reach base twice with a double and a walk.
Craig Tatum had a huge day at the plate in Sarasota’s 7-2 win over Vero Beach. He went two for four with a two run homer and a solo shot in the win. Jeremiah Piepkorn also helped out the cause with a two run homer.
Daryl Thompson improved to 2-2 on the season with the win. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings.
Ramon Ramirez improved to 4-2 with a nice start in Sarasota’s 4-0 win over Fort Myers. He gave up just two hits and a walk with four strikeouts in seven shutout innings.
Jeremiah Piepkorn was the hitting star in the win. He went two for four with a two run homer.
Ramon Ramirez has made pitching as Sarasota look easy so far this year. He won his first start in an impressive outing in which he gave up just a single run on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts. It was the first earned run he’d given up all season and he’s struck out 13 in 13 2/3 innings. The only concern are seven walks but so far, they haven’t come back to haunt him.
Jay Bruce hit his first homerun of the season. It was a two run shot in the sixth that turned out to be the game winner. Jeremiah Piepkorn went two for four with a walk, three runs and an RBI in the 6-3 win.
Jeremiah Piepkorn led Sarasota with the stick in their 5-3 win over the Dunedin. He went three for five with two doubles and two RBIs. Adam Rosales also had a very good game and he finished with three hits, an RBI and two runs.
Johnny Cueto was mediocre in his five innings and he gave up three runs. Ruben Medina picked up the win with two shutout relief innings and Josh Roenicke picked up his sixth save with a scoreless ninth.
Carlos Fisher has handled himself quite well in the Florida League. He’s won all three of his starts and in this one, he gave up just a single run on four hits with five strikeouts in six innings of work. In 19 innings this year, he’s given up just one earned run, thirteen hits and just two walks. That’s a nice start and once the weather warms up, it might be worth seeing what the right hander can do in Double A.
Craig Tatum had a nice day at the plate. He went three for four with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Michael Griffin and Jeremiah Piepkorn also had three hits in the 5-1 win.
Craig Tatum hit the ball well in the Reds 6-3 win over Tampa. He went two for four with a two run homer. Jeremiah Piepkorn went three for four with two doubles and a run while Jay Bruce continued to hit well with two hits and two runs. Bruce now has nine runs in the first ten games.
Luis Montano picked up the win with some solid relief. He gave up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.
Richie Gardner left today’s game with a nice two run lead after a nice start. He gave up just a single run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Then the pen failed him. Logan Ondrusek gave up the game winner and he took the loss.
Jeremiah Piepkorn had a nice day at the plate. He finished with two runs and two RBIs.
Sarasota got some phenomonal pitching in their win over Fort Myers. Johnny Cueto had a tough time and he gave up two runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Then four relievers combined for 7 2/3 shutout innings to close the game out as the Reds won 3-2 in 12 innings.
