The Mudcats picked up just three hits in a 2-1 loss to the Smokies last night. Kris Negron went one for two with two walks and a run. Denis Phipps went two for four.
A nice start by Matt Klinker went to waste. He gave up a run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings. Jordan Smith gave uip a run in the ninth and he fell to 0-1.
The Mudcats kicked off their season with a 4-2 win over Birmingham. Matt Klinker had a fantastic start and he improved to 1-0. He gave up two hits with three strikeouts in five shutout innings. Jordan Smith got into trouble in the ninth and while he gave up a run, he also pitched out of it and he picked up his first save of the season.
Sean Danielson went two for four in the win. Sean Henry brought a big stick and he went two for four with a home run and three RBIs. Yonder Alonso went one for three with a walk, a double and two runs.
Carolina came back from a three run deficit to beat the Lookouts 4-3. Zach Cozart belted a two run blast to help out the cause while Logan Parker doubled twice.
Jordan Smith improved to 5-3 with a solid start. He gave up three runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Logan Ondrusek gave up one hit in the ninth and he picked up his third save of the season.
Four hits isn’t going to cut it and that’s all the Mudcats picked up tonight in their 9-0 loss. Three of the four hits went for doubles and Jose Castro was the only hitter to reach base twice with a double and a walk.
Jordan Smith fell to 4-3 with a rough start. He gave up three runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Ramon Geronimo was particularly hit hard and he gave up six runs in just one inning.
Jordan Smith fell to 4-1 on the season and while the defense committed three errors behind him, he also gave up a bunch of baserunners. He gave up five runs (two earned) on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Chris Krosi went two for four with a double and an RBI. Juan Francisco belted a two run homer.
You have to feel for Jordan Smith because he pitched a very nice game. He gave up one run on seven hits with five strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. Unfortunately, he dropped his first start and he fell to 2-1.
Drew Stubbs ended up with two of the Reds three hits in the 1-0 loss. Justin Tordi had the other one.
Juan Francisco had a big day at the plate as the Reds took care of the Miracle 8-6. He went four for five with three doubles and three runs while Chris Heisey went two for three with a double and three RBIs.
Jordan Smith didn’t have a great start but he picked up the win none the less. He gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings of work.
The Dragons outhit the Loons 9-8 but they lost 4-2 in a low scoring affair. Jason Louwsma hit a solo homerun while Chris Valaika went three for four.
Jordan Smith dropped to 4-4 on the season although he had a decent start. He gave up three runs on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.
The Dragons took both games in their doubleheader sweep over South Bend. In the first game, the offense was rolling and Chris Valaika doubled, drove in three and scored a run. Juan Francisco went two for three with a homerun and two RBIs while Jordan Smith picked up the win with five decent innings in the 6-3 win.
In game two, pitching saved the game and Pedro Viola picked up the win with 2 2/3 shutout innings of relief. Drew Stubbs went two for three and he scored both runs in the 2-1 win.
Justin Turner had a big day at the plate in the Dragons 8-2 win over Clinton. He went three for four with a homerun and three RBIs. Eddy Rodriguez joins him with a monster game. He went two for three with a homerun, four RBIs and two runs.
Jordan Smith picked up the win with six decent innings. He gave up two runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
A pretty good start by Jordan Smith went to waste in the Dragons 3-2 loss to Beloit. He gave up just two unearned runs on three hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Logan Parker had a nice day at the plate. He went two for three with a walk and an RBI.
This game was pretty ugly as Burlington scored fourteen runs in the first five innings. Jordan Smith took the loss and he was hit hard for eight runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts in just 2 2/3 innings.
Denis Phillips had a pretty good game at the plate in the 14-7 loss. He went three for five with two RBIs and a run. Chris Valaika went two for four with a run and an RBI.
Chris Helsey led the Dragons in their 8-4 win over Forth Wayne. He finished with two hits and one of them was a big three run homer. He also finished with two runs.
Jordan Smith threw a nice game in his start and he improved to 1-0. He gave up just one run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings.
The Dragons needed a late run but they outlasted the White Caps in an 8-7 game that saw both sides combine for five errors. Jordan Smith was decent in his start and while he gave up four runs, just one of them was earned. He gave up four hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings. Jose Rojas closed things out with an impressive ninth inning. He struck out two and didn’t give up a baserunner.
Juan Francisco was the hitting star. He went three for five with a double, two RBIs and a run. Drew Stubbs also had a nice game and he went two for four with a walk and two runs.
