Four hits isn’t going to cut it and that’s all the Mudcats picked up tonight in their 9-0 loss. Three of the four hits went for doubles and Jose Castro was the only hitter to reach base twice with a double and a walk.
Jordan Smith fell to 4-3 with a rough start. He gave up three runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Ramon Geronimo was particularly hit hard and he gave up six runs in just one inning.
Alexander Smit fell to 2-2 on the season with a really rough start in the Mudcats 8-6 loss to the Smokies. He gave up four runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. In fact all four pitchers that the Mudcats threw out there gave up at least one run.
Jose Castro led the way at the plate in the loss. He went two for five with a double, two RBIs and a run. Eric Eymann went two for four with a run and an RBI.
Not too many teams can survive a nine run inning and that’s what the Mudcats gave up in the second inning yesterday. Most of those came off of Misael DeJesus, who was credited with eight of those runs on five hits and three walks in just 1 1/3 innings. The loss dropped him to 1-1 on the season.
Sean Henry was one of the hitting stars. He went two for four with a double, two RBIs and a run. Jose Castro was two for two with a run.
