Matt Maloney may have seen his specatcular ERA (now 2.30) go up, but it was still more then good enough for him to walk away with the win in the Bats 6-4 win over Gwinnett. He gave up three runs on seven hits and two walk with six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Robert Manuel gave up a run in the ninth but he still picked up his sixth save of the season.
Kevin Barker went two for four with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Chris Heisey also had a nice game and he went three for five with a double, an RBI and two runs.
This was a wild one. Travis Wood gave up a pair of runs in the second inning and that’s all either team scored until the Mudcats tied it up with two in the seventh. Then three in the eighth by Carolina appeared to put this one out of reach but Lookouts stormed back and scored four in the fourth to sneak away with a win. Speaking of Travis Wood, he threw seven solid frames in his no-decision. He gave up two runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Sean Watson gave up the four eighth inning runs and he fell to 1-4 on the season.
Sean Henry went two for four with a two run home run. Todd Frazier also pitched in with a two run blast of his own.
The Bats couldn’t get much going at the plate as they lost to the Charlotte Knights 6-0. Daniel Dorn and Michael Griffin accounted for most of the offense with a pair of singles each but neither could come around to score in either chance.
Ramon Ramirez had a rough start and he fell to 2-5. He gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings.
Matt Maloney fell to 4-4 despite a solid start in the Bats 3-2 loss to Charlotte. He gave up three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in the eight inning complete game. He needed only 89 pitches and 70 of them were for strikes.
Drew Sutton went two for four with a double. Kevin Barker tripled and he scored one of the two Bats runs.
The Bats had plenty of hitting stars in their 11-5 over Gwinnett. Darnell McDonald went three for five with a pair of solo homers and three runs. Kevin Barker went two for two with a double, a solo home run and two runs scored while Edwin Encarnacion belted a three run blast during his rehab stint.
Homer Bailey improved to 8-5 with a really nice start. He gave up one run on six hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in seven frames.
The Bats lost a tough one as they went into extra frames and lost 6-3 in the tenth. Robert Manuel took the loss and he fell to 3-3 after he gave up the three tenth inning runs.
Kevin Barker went one for three with a walk, a solo home run and two runs. Craig Tatum went one for three with a walk and an RBI.
Three Bats pitchers combined to shutout the Braves in an impressive 5-0 win. Sam LeCure picked up the win and he improved to 5-5. He gave up four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
Kevin Barker brought the big stick and he went two for four with a two run homer and three RBIs. Daniel Dorn pitched in with a two run blast.
Homer Bailey did it again and he improved to 7-5 with a really nice start in the Bats 6-2 win over Norfolk. He gave up seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in eight shutout innings. Robert Manuel got the final batter out to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Daniel Dorn was the hitting star in the win. He went three for four with a double, a run and an RBI. Luis Bolivar went two for three with a walk, a run and an RBI.
Chicks love the long ball and the Bats picked up three of them in a 6-4 win over Norfolk. Drew Sutton belted a two run shot while Kevin Barker and Craig Tatum both went yard with a solo homers.

Ben Jukich was roughed up and he took the loss in the Bats 5-1 loss to Norfolk yesterday. He gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings.
Kevin Barker was the hitting star and he went two for three with a walk, He also drove in the lone Bats run with a solo home run, his eighth long ball of the season.
The Bats came back from a 4-0 deficit to top the Columbus Clippers at their new ballpark 7-5. Danny Richar went three for five with a double and two RBIs. Wes Bankston went two for five with a two run homer.
Sam LeCure was roughed up but he still picked up the win. He gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings.
The Bats almost let a late lead get away from them but a late inning flurry gave them the runs they needed in the 8-5 win. Kevin Barker was one of the hitting stars and he belted a home run and he drove in three. Wes Bankston went three for four with two doubles, a run and an RBI.
Justin Lehr didn’t have his best start but it was good enough to improve to 7-2. He gave up four runs on eight hits and one walk with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Jose Roenicke threw a shutout ninth and he picked up his ninth save of the season.
Homer Bailey had another solid inning and he improved to 5-5 with an exceptional start in the Bats 6-0 win. He gave up just four hits and two walk with eight strikeouts in eight shutout frames.
Darnell McDonald went two for five with a home run and two RBIs. Drew Sutton went belted a home run, drew two walks, drove in two and scored twice.
The Bats took care of the Yankees for the second straight time and you couldn’t have asked for a better start from Matt Maloney. He gave up just three hits and didn’t allow a free pass and he struck out ten in the shutout. His ERA now sits at 2.00 and he has a pretty good 58/9 strikeout to walk ratio in 67 1/3 innings. It’s nice knowing you have a kid like this waiting in the wings in the event something happens in the big league rotation.
Drew Stubbs belted a solo shot in the 3-0 win. Norris Hopper went two for four with a walk and a run.
