The Bats took care of the Yankees for the second straight time and you couldn’t have asked for a better start from Matt Maloney. He gave up just three hits and didn’t allow a free pass and he struck out ten in the shutout. His ERA now sits at 2.00 and he has a pretty good 58/9 strikeout to walk ratio in 67 1/3 innings. It’s nice knowing you have a kid like this waiting in the wings in the event something happens in the big league rotation.
Drew Stubbs belted a solo shot in the 3-0 win. Norris Hopper went two for four with a walk and a run.
Sam LeCure fell to 2-4 on the season in a rought start against the SWB Yankees. He gave up five runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. The pen didn’t do much better and they gave up four runs in three frames.
Wes Bankston doubled and drove in the lone Bats run in the 9-1 loss. Norris Hopper singled and he scored one run.
Louisville lost today and they were completely shut down at the plate. The lone run came in the third inning when Norris Hopper singled home Ryan Jorgenson in the 4-1 loss.
Brian Shackelford picked up the loss in a pretty poor relief appearance. He gave up all four of the runs and he did it while getting just two outs.
Sarasota got a blow out win and then a close loss in their doubleheader with Dunedin. In the first game, Craig Tatum drove in three runs with two hits and Carlos Fisher threw six shutout innings in the 8-0 win.
Game two didn’t go as well. Johnny Cueto had a mediocre start and he gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. The lone run came on an RBI single by Norris Hopper in the 2-1 loss.
