Sean Watson was hit hard and he fell to 0-1 on the season in Sarasota’s 8-1 loss to Palm Beach. He gave up five runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings.
No Red had more then one hit in the loss. Jeremiah Piepkorn was the only batter to reach base twice with a double and a walk.
Cody Strait had a big day at the plate in Sarasota’s 9-6 win over Vero Beach. He went two for five with a homerun and five RBIs. Craig Tatum went three for five with a double and an RBI.
Robert Manuel improved to 5-2 with 2 1/3 innings of solid relief. He gave up one run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Sarasota beat Clearwater 7-4 and their pitchers got it done on the mound. Johnny Cueto gave up four runs in four innings but he struck out seven. Then Carlos Bohorquez picked up the win with three shutout innings of relief. He struck out five in an impressive performance.
Carson Kainer went two for four with two doubles and two RBIs. Michael Griffin went two for five with a double, a solo homerun and two runs scored.
Ben Jukich didn’t take the loss but he got the Reds off to a poor start in their 10-8 loss to Clearwater. He gave up four runs on five hits and two walks and he pitched just 1 1/3 innings. Derrick Lutz ended up taking the loss and he gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Jay Bruce had a nice day at the plate in the loss. He went two for five with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. Eric Eymann went three for four with a double and he scored a run.
Sarasota entered the eighth down 3-0 and things were looking grim but the Reds rallied for four runs to walk away with a 4-3 win. Adam Rosales singled home two runs to make it a one run game and then Craig Tatum singled home both the tying and winning runs in the big inning.
Ramon Ramirez improved to 5-2 on the season with some nice pitching. He gave up just a single hit and he struck out six in 3 1/3 innings.
Carlos Bohorquez had a rough time in his relief appearance for Sarasota in their 6-4 loss to St. Lucie. He gave up four runs on four hits and one walk with one strikeout in just 2/3 of an inning.
Michael Griffin was the hitting star in the loss. He went three for four with a double and a run.
Sarasota lost 10-7 and Adam Rosalez accounted for three of those runs with a three run homerun in the fifth inning. Daniel Dorn had a nice day as well and he went three for five with a triple and two runs scored.
Robert Manuel took the loss and he dropped to 2-2 on the season. He gave up two runs in his two innings of relief.
Jay Bruce had a nice day at the plate in Sarasota’s 5-2 win over St. Lucie. He only had one hit but it was a double and he finished the game with three RBIs. Brandon Szymanski also had a great day and he went three for four and was a single short of hitting for the cycle with three runs scored.
Ramon Ramirez threw six shutout innings in the win. He gave up six hits and a walk with six strikeouts.
Craig Tatum had a huge day at the plate in Sarasota’s 7-2 win over Vero Beach. He went two for four with a two run homer and a solo shot in the win. Jeremiah Piepkorn also helped out the cause with a two run homer.
Daryl Thompson improved to 2-2 on the season with the win. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings.
Travis Wood dropped to 2-2 on the season with a poor start in Sarasota’s 5-3 loss to Vero Beach. He gave up all five runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts in just 3 2/3 innings.
Michael Griffin was the hitting star in the loss. He went two for five with an RBI.
Wow, this was an impressive win. The offense racked up 16 runs with three different Reds driving in three runs each while the pitching held Vero Beach scoreless. If I had to pick a hitting star, it’d be Adam Rosales. He went three for four with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs. Brandon Szymanski also had a nice game and he went three for five with a solo homerun and three runs.
Johnny Cueto improved to 3-4 with six shutout innings. He gave up three hits and a walk with ten strikeouts in an impressive start.
Logan Ondrusek dropped to 4-3 on the season in the Reds 8-4 loss to Vero Beach. He gave up six runs on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
Jay Bruce had another good gaem. He went three for five with a double, a run and an RBI. Brandon Szymanski hit a solo homerun in the loss.
