The game was only five innings, but it was five solid frames by Mudcats started Tom Cochran as he improved to 1-0 on the season. He gave up only two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Yonder Alonso accounted for all of Carolina’s offense with a two run shot.  It was his first home run since getting promoted from Sarasota.

Yonder Alonso had a big day at the plate in the Mudcats 9-2 win over the Smokies.  He finished the game three for four with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs while Chris Helsey went three for five with two doubles and a solo homer.

Zachary Stewart picked up the win and he improved to 2-0 with a nice start.  He gave up one unearned run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts in six innings.  Tom Cochran gave up a solo home and he struck out five in three innings to pick up his first save of the season.
